History

The Guiding Light was established in 1980 by Bettelou Sorci in Pittsburgh, PA. This unique studio offers distinctive lighting and Interior Design services to the tri-state area and beyond. You will find antique and modern chandeliers, lamps, wall sconces, furnishings, and mirrors and accessories throughout their beautiful space. In addition, they also offer lamp and chandelier repairs, custom lamps and mountings, and an inventory of over 4,000 lamp shades as well as a workshop to execute all custom repair work.

The Guiding Light moved to Oakmont in 2004 where it continues to offer the same services and products.  You will find an extensive selection of lighting, which includes new and re-fitted antique lamps, wall sconces, chandeliers, finials and ready-made shades.  A collection of fine Italian home furnishings, hand selected from Milan, Florence, and Venice are also available as well as many other unique and beautiful furnishings and accessories.  The work of the Interior Design staff can be seen in the finest homes throughout the tri-state area along with the Palm Beaches of South Florida.

Bettelou Sorci, Owner, The Guiding Light

Bettelou began her career working for Mr. Edgar J. Kaufmann in 1956 in the Kaufmanns' Interior Design Studio at the landmark downtown Pittsburgh location. After many years with Kaufmann's, and as a freelance designer, she realized her passion for lamps and the need for a fine custom lighting studio in the area and so, The Guiding Light opened its' doors in 1980 specializing in custom lamps, mountings, and hand sewn shades along with a workshop located on the premises to execute custom repair work.

She moved to the Oakmont location in 2004 where her showroom continues to provide an extensive selection of lighting options, including new and re-fitted antique lamps, wall sconces, chandeliers, finials and ready-made shades. A collection of fine Italian home furnishings that have been hand-selected by Bettelou in Milan, Florence, and Venice are also available at her studio. Her work can be seen in the finest home around the tri-state area as well as South Florida.

G. Thomas Catalucci, Interior Designer, ASID

After graduating from La Roche College, Thomas began his career with the former J.W. Stitt Company in New Brighton, PA. Later he relocated to South Florida where he continued to perfect his design talents and in 1987 he established his own design firm, Catalucci Interior Design in Boca Raton.

For over three decades, Thomas has been designing unique, highly personalized interiors, transforming residential living spaces into visionary works of beauty. By ensuring personal attention and a total focus towards his client's final satisfaction, he has developed the reputation that continues to drive his business today. Thomas' work can be found in many distinctive homes from the suburbs of Boston, New York City, Chevy Chase, Maryland, Fisher Island, Miami, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale and the Palm Beaches of South Florida.

Machelle Meshanko, Manager of The Guiding Light

Machelle is the Manager of The Guiding Light and has been for the past 14 years. She brings her unique talents as well as her eye for detail when it comes to repairing and remounting lamps, refurbishing chandeliers, creating custom lamps shades and running the day-to-day operation of The Guiding Light.

Lisa Balash, Staff

Lisa has been with The Guiding Light for over 7 years. Her responsibilities include just about everything including office assistance, inventory control, lamp repair and assisting customers in the studio.
